Are you heading to the gorgeous coastal city of Pattaya? If you are, you are in for a grand treat. Pattaya is known for being one of the best places to visit when traveling around Thailand. Not only is the city lively and fun, but some of the best beaches in Asia are located in Pattaya! If you plan on visiting Thailand, you must stay a few days in Pattaya, even a couple of weeks.

With so much to do, we’ve put together a list of tips on how to easily navigate around the city, where to stay, and what to prepare for. Planning any trip isn’t easy but with this guide, you will be a Pattaya city guru in no time!

How to Get to Pattaya

Since Pattaya is only 100 kilometers (around 60 miles) south of Bangkok, you’ll want to fly into the capital city first. From Bangkok, you can easily take a cheap bus that will drive you and your family or friends straight to Pattaya. This is another reason why you can’t miss visiting Pattaya because it’s so cheap and easy to access.

You can take a bus from the bus station at the International Bangkok airport or a local bus. Buying a ticket will only cost you around 250 Thai Baht or less (that’s around $7 US dollars). The bus ride is only 3 and a half to 4 hours long and you’ll know when you make it to Pattaya because you will feel the salty ocean breeze. The buses usually drop passengers off at the bus station so you can easily get a taxi to take you to your hotel.

Uber is considered to be illegal in Thailand, although you can still find drivers. The best and cheapest taxi service to go with is Grab Taxi. Similar to Uber and Lyft, Grab Taxi is a mobile app that is legal and popular to use all throughout Southeast Asia. Download the app and request a ride.

What to Pack for Your Pattaya Vacation

I mentioned that some of the best beaches in Thailand were in Pattaya so it’s safe to say that you’ll want to pack a bathing suit (maybe even a couple). You will also want to pack sunscreen if your skin is sensitive to the sun’s golden rays.

It’s better to bring sunscreen with you before arriving in Thailand because surprisingly, this is one of the most expensive items to buy. Since the locals don’t wear it (or even need it) they know they can charge Westerners more for it. Don’t worry if you forget your sunglasses though, you can buy a new stylish and cheap pair as a souvenir.

Where to Stay in Pattaya

With thousands of hotels in the city, there are so many options of places to stay! Tourism has significantly increased in Pattaya so you won’t have to worry about finding a place. The question is, do you want to be closer to the tropical beaches or in the center of the city?

If you enjoy swimming in the ocean or tanning on the beach, you’ll want to book a hotel off Cosy Beach (near Pattaya Hill). This is one of the best places to enjoy beach recreation activities. You can also hop on the ferry and check out Koh Larn, an island that makes you feel like you’re in paradise.

It’s not surprising when someone decides to extend their stay in Pattaya. In fact, Pattaya is becoming a popular place for expats to live, especially retired ones. Many people who work remotely are also moving there so they can do work and enjoy the tropical lifestyle.

If you are planning to rent a vacation home or move to Pattaya, you’ll want to go through a trusted rental company. It’s not uncommon for expats to get ripped off by a local landlord, and if you don’t know Thai, it might be hard to find the best place. Luckily, Sense Property has a list of luxurious properties and cozy vacation rentals. Be sure to check out their available villas and find your new home away from home.

Enjoy Pattaya!

Sometimes planning a vacation can be stressful so don’t forget to be prepared and enjoy your relaxing trip. If you’ve decided to go to Pattaya, you’ve picked one of the best cities to visit in Thailand that’s also tourist friendly. We hope you have a fantastic trip!
